The Countdown Begins!

It's Official! There are only 62 days until the new Pearl Jam album, Pearl Jam [artwork above], hits stores AND my CD player for about a solid two months. The new album is their 8th studio album and first since 2003's Riot Act . The full track listing is not yet known, but the new single "Worldwide Suicide" will be released next week. Radio stations (and myself) have already recieved a digital :15 preview of the track. The song seems to be consistant with what the band has been saying about the album during the recording sessions; it sounds pretty darn rockin' and a bit of a throwback to Vs. -era material. But, of course, this is all based on fifteen seconds of the chorus that (according to many reports) may only be the left channel of the mix. [if you'd like to here for yourself, you can download the :15 .mp3 here ] PearlJam.com has also been redesigned and has announced that next Wed., March 8th, you'll be able to download "Worldwide Suicide&q

iPod Revolution

i am now officially responsible for getting 3 of my family members into the iPod age. i bought my lovely wife, Erica, a pink iPod mini for her birthday last year; helped my sister pick out a nice iPod shuffle a week ago so she could have some music on the cruise she just returned from; and last weekend i got my dad started with my old iPod (the 'rents were kind enough to bestow a lovely black video iPod to me for Christmas). i guess helping people find the iPod that suits them best (and them effectively use it) falls into my life mission of spreading music to people. it is ultimately a means by which one gets the music they desire. so i am happy. i really should have a job a Best Buy, too. maybe i can just be a consultant to them, or something. here's why: i was in Best Buy today, i was walking around the mp3 players and mp3 player accessories and there was a guy about my age beginning a conversation with a salesman about how he was going to buy an mp3 player (even i could

For Me, It's You: NEW MUSIC TUESDAY

Image
Train - For Me, It's You Haven't made it all the way through the new album yet, but i like what i hear. At this point in their career you kinda know what you are going to get when you buy a Train album. I can't say that this album is as adventurous as 2003's My Private Nation (that album had some truly unique pop-rock songs on it) however, i do like what i hear so far..."All I Ever Wanted" is a mellow-but-solid opening track, the first single "Cab" is your typical Train single (complete with piano intro and strings), and "Am I Reaching You Now" is a fantastic Beatles-esque songs that doesn't come off as overly Beatles-esque, and the title track/album closer "For Me, It's You" has just enough soul to soar and make the late Wilson Picket proud. Grade: B (and rising)

Jack, Mike3, and Death Cab...

Image
well, it has been a while and there have been three things i've been meaning to post: 1. the new season of 24 has started. Jack is back and i am once again amazed at how this show just keeps getting better...my favorite Jack Bauer line so far? "Let's get one thing clear, the only reason you're still conscious is 'cause I don't feel like carrying you!" 2. My beloved Packers have a new coach: Mike McCarthy . He is only the 14th head coach in the Packers 87 year history AND the third coach named "Mike" in the past 15 years. Let's hope we're not ust getting M3 Power from Gillette, but from 1265 Lombardi Ave. as well 3. Death Cab For Cutie - " The Photo Album " I decided to go back (with the help of my Best Buy RewardZone certificates) and get the earlier Death Cab albums i did not already own, and i have officially fallen in love with this album. it is about all i am listneing to now in the car, on the ol' iPod...though

New Music Tuesday!

The Strokes - First Impressions of Earth It's time to start a new feature over here at my blog: New Music Tuesday. basically i'm just going to tell you what i bought at Best Buy every Tuesday (assuming there's a new release i want) if not, then you'll get a DVD selection, or something of the sorts... So as you can tell i bought the new strokes album, haven't listened to it all yet, but i like what i hear, and if you are a strokes fan, you will too!

Thanks for the Memories, Mike!

In what is turning out to be a bit of a bittersweet day in Packerland, my Packers have decided to fire head coach Mike Sherman after 6 season leading the team. I really thought Sherman would get one more year to prove that this 4-12 season was just a fluke, but i guess the powers-that-be felt otherwise. And, hey, what do i know? i'm just a fan, i'm not there day in, day out, to see how it all works. But i wish him well, the man had TREMENDOUS respect for the Packers organization, tradition, and heritage. Unfortunately, i am now expecting Brett Favre not to return for one more year. However, that is not set in stone yet. i'll save my Favre 'eu-goo-gal-ly' for when he officially hangs it up
